Robert Downey Jr. is making his long-awaited return to the MCU, joined by familiar faces like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, along with stars from X-Men and Fantastic Four, in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
During a nearly five-and-a-half-hour livestream, Marvel Studios unveiled the star-studded cast for the highly anticipated film. The lineup features MCU mainstays alongside actors from 20th Century Fox’s now-defunct X-Men universe and key figures from the forthcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps. While some notable stars were absent — including Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) — Evans is expected to make an appearance in at least one of the two-part film.
Among the confirmed cast members are:
-
Chris Hemsworth (Thor)
-
Tom Hiddleston (Loki)
-
Anthony Mackie (Captain America)
-
Paul Rudd (Ant-Man)
-
Letitia Wright (Black Panther)
-
Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)
-
Danny Ramirez (The Falcon)
-
Winston Duke (M’Baku)
Marvel's upcoming Thunderbolts movie is also represented with stars like Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Lewis Pullman (Bob). These actors joined the cast reveal, adding excitement to the Avengers event.
Also returning are iconic X-Men stars from 2000’s X-Men, which helped launch the modern superhero film era. These include:
-
Patrick Stewart (Professor X)
-
Ian McKellen (Magneto)
-
James Marsden (Cyclops)
-
Rebecca Romijn (Mystique)
Additionally, X2: X-Men United stars Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast) will make appearances, following their roles in X-Men: The Last Stand and The Marvels. Channing Tatum, who was previously tied to a Gambit film, is also joining Avengers: Doomsday after a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.
The Fantastic Four team is rounding out the cast with:
-
Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic)
-
Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman)
-
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing)
-
Joseph Quinn (Human Torch)
One of the biggest surprises of the livestream was the return of Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who portrayed Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite allegations of sexual misconduct in 2023, which Huerta denied as "false and completely unsubstantiated," he is confirmed to return in Doomsday. The actor dropped out of a Netflix project during the media controversy but later attended the Echo premiere, indicating a positive relationship with Marvel.
Fans can expect an explosive reunion of beloved characters from across Marvel’s history as they prepare for the thrilling adventure in Avengers: Doomsday.
